Author of “Cylinder 7551”, Frederick Gero Heimbach takes us through alternate histories, the future and doppelgängers.
What was the inspiration behind your short story?
I’ve always been fascinated by the Cold War and I really enjoy creating alternate histories, so combining the two was inevitable. The Cold War produced some big personalities and the chance to put them in new scenarios to find out how they’d react is irresistible.
What does science fiction mean to you?
It means exploring the future, including the future as it existed in the minds of people from the past.
What’s your favorite science fiction artwork, book, or film?
Tim Powers’ The Anubis Gate, which blends sci-fi, fantasy, and alternate history seamlessly into a dazzling tapestry.
Androids or Aliens?
Could I please have doppelgangers instead? Otherwise, give me androids.
